Profiles not used anymore?

No, that can'tbe it; because if that happens, Krita will look in the
configuration and get the configured monitor profile: the code is in
KisView::resetMonitorProfile and KisProfile::getScreenProfile.
If a profile embedded in an image is no longer loaded then I'd suspect
the import filter. Does the profile still show up in the image properties
dialog?
I still don't have a current Krita installed because I'm working on the
bltSelection bug in 1.4.1.
