Base krita on ILMs image library OpenEXR?

What does OpenEXR do? Krita's use of ImageMagick for import/export is more or 
less a stop-gap measure, but one that seems to work well. Replacing Krita's 
core -- the tile manager, painter and paint device would mean yet another 
redesign; the fourth or fifth in five years, and I wouldn't really like to go 
through that again. Besides, the fun thing with the current core is that it's 
extensible enough to add weird things that are impossible with generic image 
libraries.
