I though I was going to be clever and redefine PIXEL_RED and things
on powerpc, but that has an unfortunate side-effect. Images load without 
problem on my powerbook, but saving them and loading on intel is very 
interesting. So no shortcuts here, this demands some thinking and 
investigating, which I'm going to do tonight.
