Yes. I'm not sure if kimageshop@kde.org is the right place, maybe a

Some metadata can be stored inside images (e.g. EXIF data in jpegs). We have
KFileMetaInfo et al as a generic means to access all kinds of metadata. I
guess with imgSeek you're having much more metadata than comments,
resolution, size etc. Do you know about www.fer-de-lance.org, the GIFT (GNU
Image Finding Tool) and kmrml as frontend (kmrml is to be seen as proof of
concept, a first version currently).

So you're not using the KDE Thumbnail facility? It automatically handles all
that, you just request a thumbnail for a url. See KIO::PreviewJob and e.g.
kio/kfile/kfileiconview.cpp as an example where it's used.
