Inquiry about contributions and merge requests

Greetings,

I was wondering about the process of contributing to the development of the
application. I was reading through the bug tracker for the application
recently and saw a feature request that I was interested in implementing.
After implementing it and seeing that the changes are sound, am I right in
creating a merge request to the main GitLab repository?

Apologies if my questions are vague or unclear. I am quite new to this
whole contributing to open source thing.
