Dolphin core functionality has been removed as a way of bug fixing. It is not a
Solution.
## SUMMARY ##
Vital functionality, that has been the core of KDE experience since inception,
has been removed in a childish attempt to hide a very old, unresolved bug.
## STEPS TO REPRODUCE ##
Compare Dolphin functionality before and after the deletion.
## OBSERVED RESULT ##
"KDE Gears" is ridden of its heart functionality, instead of bug fixing. Here:
very old unresolved bug in Dolphin has been "fixed" by deletion of core Dolphin
functionality.
Example of removed core functionality to hide a long standing, unresolved bug:
1. Core functionality of every file manager, incl. Dolphin, is to control and
display of free space left (it's never enough). Dolphin had this functionality
included, since forever in the right corner of the status bar. Users
theoretically could delete files and at a **single glance**- without any
unnecessary clicks and deep menu hunting- immediately observe the results of
their deletion (how much space they recuperated after file deletion). Now users
are forced to open the Konsole and use lsblk to find the block device name and
use df with -lh option each time they delete a single file, as opposed to just
a single glance in GUI. Now it's gone, defeating the whole purpose of KDE. KDE
is reverting to being a window manager not a desktop environment and Dolphin is
regressing from being file manger to being yet another file browser (albeit
heavier and much, much slower with file copying. I confirm this bug:
https://discuss.kde.org/t/copying-files-in-dolphin-using-admin-is-mindbendingly-slow.
Slows down to KiBs and forces user to open Konsole and use rsync).
2. Long standing (since KDE 5), this unresolved bug had been reported by users
and carried to KDE 6: Deleting files in Dolphin **doesn't** change the free
space in the status bar. Free space in Dolphin status bar (right, bottom
corner) is frozen in the past and useless.
## SOURCES: ##
1. Baffled, unhappy users, who were left with their favorite software mangled:
https://discuss.kde.org/t/dolphin-missing-bar-on-bottom/33549
2. Example of this unfixed bug reported years ago (bug had been reported even
earlier and never fixed):
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446084
## EXPECTED RESULT ##
1. Listening to users (without users you're coding for yourself);
2. Bug fixing instead of deleting core functionality (core function of every
file manager is to manage files and free space);
3. Immediate stopping of deleting core functionality to meet the quota of fixed
bugs. Achieving a quota of "fixed" bugs via deletion of core functionality is
not a solution;
4. Bug fixing instead of never-ending parade of new functionality that hasn't
been asked for;
5. Allocating existing resources to bug fixing, instead of deleting core
functionality;
6. Restructuring KDE e.v. (incl. lay-offs) and hiring people, who won't be
using money earned from KDE e.v. to buy themselves an Apple computer, but are
actually passionate and use KDE as their daily driver (if it wasn't the case,
the core functionality wouldn't be deleted to "fix" a bug, since everyone who
installed KDE is using the status bar in Dolphin to see the result of his file
managing job).
## INFO ##
Operating System: Arch
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0
Graphics Platform: X11
Person: Passionate about KDE
P.S. The undocumented shortcut bug (see my previous bug report) that is
DDOS-ing KDE via executions of endless screenshotting (with a speed of light
Spectacle is doing screenshots is launching itself in an infinite number) has
returned with a vengeance. Just like in Hollywood movies. This is resulting
(hard reset) in **broken boot partition** and at best ends with the infamous
mismatch. Just a reminder: boot partition can only be **exclusively vfat** and
FAT32 is not as robust as ext4, xfs or f2fs (none of those 3 can be used
there). Regardless this is **not cool**. Please fix the bug.
