You could probably recursively explore the folders under your home directory
(when you are looking at the folders in System Settings > File Search),
possibly flag the symlinks and show what they are referencing. That could work.

But if you are using the default config, and not looking in System Settings,
and then create a symlink, there's not really an opportunity or place to show
an error.

Yes. Indeed painful: Baloo indexing does not follow symlinks, Dolphin's
internal filesearch does follow them. That's just so messy.
