I want to add an idea how to implement it on user interface level, if this gets
integrated.

The lock could have 3 states: on (filter all), on_files (on but affect files
only) and off. This has the advantage of not introducing any new options in the
menus and no new user interface elements or changes. The lock could just have 3
states activated with clicks, reflected by its icon look.
