Yes given this has had many duplicates, has a bunch of CC users and votes.

Well that's not true, at least most of the time.
Only devs can make such decisions.

Here I am thankful this was still opened, or I wouldn't have worked on it.

And the fact you receive emails like "A possibly relevant merge request was
started" means some work is underway to implement the feature.
