adding more info, .xcf files are also not being thumbnailed any more,
application typ and filetypes are correctly created by GIMP install

BTW, I suggest creating JPG thumbnails and not PNG as it is now, JPGs
thumbnails are notable faster to create 

I have emptied the ~/.cache/thumbnails folder, nothing changed, just JPGs are
reated, small thumbnails are created by gwenview when in folder view (as
reported initially)
