I was about to write my own feature request about this very thing.

I strongly second this, as a simplified way to use "hardlinks" can greatly
enhance the user experience and yield better storage efficiency, without
resorting to "symlinks" which can (easily) be "broken" by simply re-organizing
files an folders.
