Keep in mind that we're not trying to explicitly copy Windows. See
https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Design/Lessons_Learned#Copying_other_platforms.

To create a shortcut on the desktop, you can drag the thing to the desktop and
click "Link here" in the little popup menu that appears. Arguably this approach
is more intuitive than using a context menu that has a "make a link to this
thing on the desktop" menu item, which is an oddly specific and fairly
random-feeling thing for it to have. Our system is universal and generic; you
can make links anywhere in the same way. But "intuitive" is often used
synonymously with "what I'm used to, so if you don't agree, what's why Dolphin
is extensible with 3rd-party plugins, and the one you found that mimics the
relevant Windows featureseems like an adequate solution.
