The bug persists if 'Open new folders in tabs' is unchecked in Dolphin settings
and I extract a .tar.gz archive located on desktop.

1. make sure 'Open new folders in tabs' is unchecked in Dolphin settings 
2. copy an archive to desktop
3. close all instances of Dolphin
4. extract the archive located on desktop

Result: Dolphin opens
