Side by side with a mockup

When viewing small icons (e.g. 16x16 pixels) dolphin currently enlarges the
icons (much appreciated), and does so with a smooth scaling algorithm (like
cubic interpolation in gimp). This ordinarily works very well for all manner of
images, however, for particularly small images, it results in a very blurry
preview (see attachment).
What I would like to have, is a an option for images smaller than a certain
size to receive no interpolation while scaling, using a very primitive scaling
algorithm like "nearest neighbor". This would retain the crisp pixels without
simply shrinking the whole image (see attachment for my mockup made in gimp).
