I was not able to reproduce this.
I opened Dolphin (the current folder happened to be trash:/).
I switched the settings in the general tab to be Remember display style for
each folder.
I changed the display style to the trash:/ folder to be icons only.
I switched to a different folder (home) and my settings were different. I have
show in groups, folders first.
I changed my home folder to be details view.
I switched to Downloads, it had my default (show in groups folders first)
I switched back to home and it preserved my settings.
