I didn't see any setting specifically called widgets, but am using a mix of
Oxygen, Redmond/Windows & Plastik style.  When I change to Breeze, yes, the
ampersands disappear, but I just switched back, as I prefer the styles I have. 
It's readable enough for me (more of a joke saying it was hard to find, could
be for some people.)  Even if the style I use isn't updated, that'd be okay for
me, but in the case it affects anyone else and they don't like it, someone had
to report it...
