The current behavior of the Home key (which is its default behavior in Qt) is
consistent with that of arrow keys as well as PgUp and PgDn.

For example, when the top left index is already the CURRENT item but not
selected, up/left arrow, PgUp and Home shouldn't and don't select anything
because there's nothing beyond it.

Selecting the tope left CURRENT item with Home would be inconsistent with the
behavior of other navigation keys. Space can be used to select the current item
(and Ctrl+Space to deselect it).
