D10609: Make "Split" checkable

  The way I am currently attempting to fix this bug is very inconsistent... I realized that it does not play well with the startup split view option.
  
  Now, I can obviously figure out a better way but I'd like to know if this is actually needed or if it would be better to fix another bug.
