Disabling password save prompting without disabling kwallet

(For the first time ever, I seem to have lost a sent message from
gmail, so here's take two.)
I'm fighting an extremely irritating bug in which konqueror prompts me
to save my submitted passwords just because the kwallet subsystem is
enabled. I don't *want* konqueror to throw a dialog at me every time I
try to log into an online web account, but I still would like to keep
using kwallet for kopete. Konqueror does not care that it doesn't have
access to my wallet; it simply asks regardless, and then causes
kwallet to check with me for permission if I say yes. There is no "Do
not ask again" option, nor is there any control over this in the
configuration menu.
I'm using KDE/Konq 3.5.9. This seems to be a very old bug, as there is
a bug report and a patch from 2005. The report was resolved invalid
because you can still kill kwallet entirely via kwalletmanager's
settings menu, but this is hardly an appropriate fix; maybe the dev
who closed it didn't realize that this is a konqueror issue and not a
kwallet issue. I'm guessing the patch never went anywhere if I'm still
experiencing this bug today.

I'm posting here as a last resort. The freenode #kde channel doesn't
have any answers for this problem, the kde forum was hopelessly
clogged with spam the last I checked, and I wasn't sure whether I
should dig up an old resolved bug via the tracker. In addition to a
fix for this nuisance, I'd appreciate feedback on whether this is the
best place to ask about the problem.
Thanks for an otherwise snappy browser,
Jon
