Here's the new patch with David's advice taken into account.  It looks like my 
e-mail providers are experiencing problems yet again, but I can follow along 
on lists.kde.org.

If I were to save the list of selected items in the history (do people want 
this feature, BTW?), would the restoreState/ saveState mechanism be the best 
way?
