When the user is seeking for his music or his photos in a big directory
full of big, big icons he have to scroll down several pages, without
considering that if he want to copy music *and* pictures....
Maybe we need to use categories as icons, so the user can know that a
folder contains 20 pictures, 10 songs, 20 letters and so on and copy it
with only one operation.
A thing to note is that grouping and sorting using the menu is a very slow
operation. I prefer to have the options in the toolbar. This is a very
common operation when looking for files.

Yes, no need to open the category. What I want is only a selection.

Ok, but this discussion is a 'wish list', so let's imagine that we can
implement it without problems. How to do it?

Some separation, yes. How? I don't know, but if you like the idea we can
discuss about is.
I used a MacOS computer. I enjoyed it, but for some feature Linux
(Gnome&KDE) missed me. KDE4 seems to me MacOS inspired, but MacOS is not
fully user friendly for a Linux/Windows user with little time to spend in
front of a computer, in my opinion.
Generally, I would avoid to force the user to look for a menu when he
acting a basic file action. Actual Dolphin toolbar is maybe too short.
