khtml back in qt2 days

Does anyone remember by any chance if khtml lib was building as a dynamic
library back around July 2003?
(last konqueror embedded snapshot for qt2). There is a switch in configure,
but for some reason libtool makes
.la files to build static libs. Any pointers?
