make Icon View icons larger

Edit the index.theme for the icons you use to include the sizes you want.
For example,
copy /opt/kde3/share/icons/crystalsvg/index.theme 
to .kde/share/icons/crystalsvg/,

and change the line that reads:
DesktopSizes=16,22,32,48,64,128
to
DesktopSizes=16,22,32,48,64,96,128,192,256

and change the line that begins with directories to include 
scalable/actions,scalable/apps,scalable/devices,scalable/filesystems,scalable/mimetypes.

Actually, with crystalsvg, the larger sizes seem bitmap-scaled instead than 
SVG. But with real SVG themes, like "primary", the icons are quite smooth.

You may need to use the +/- buttons or the mouse wheel to change sizes that 
are not in the menu. If I remember correctly, the "huge" size is 128x128.
