gifs missing?!

HI all,

this might be a simple stupidity of me, so I ask instead of filing a bug 
report:

I just compiled KDE-3.2.1 from sources (including qt-3.3.1, Konqueror and 
kdegraphics, both 3.2.1). Now, any website displayed is missing its gifs, 
also there is no preview of any gif file in any local directory. Did I miss 
something, a package, a library, maybe a configure option of one of the 
packages already installed? 
Some pages are really bleak without gifs :(

Any hint will be appreciated!
