IIRC I did a patch to retrieve easily the plugins and mimetypes from ecma. 
There were no reactions on that patch at that time, but it sounds to me 
you need something similar, so maybe it can be revived. Anyway, have a 
search on my name and my postings on kfm-devel and you will see the patch 
quite quickly...
