Thanks, guys! As soon as KDE finishes building, I'll give your patches a try.
Yet I'm missing some functionality in both patches:
They seem to unconditionally open the history item in a new tab on mmb,
regardless of the current settings. I'd like the patches to honor the
settings, so that they support opening in a new window on mmb, and opening in
a tab on ctrl+lmb, too.
