Transparent gifs in konqueror

I'm trying to track down a bug in the X server that our company
sells. In konqueror, gifs involving transparency don't show up
at all, where as gifs without transparency are fine. I don't think
that this is konqueror's problem, but I'm hoping somebody can
point me in the correct direction to determine how to fix this.

I've downloaded the source to konqueror and the kde libs, but
I have no idea where to start looking for the code that renders
transparent gifs. If I knew how you were trying to do it, I could
put breakpoints in the X server and see what's going wrong on
our end.

Please reply directly, as I'm not on the mailing list.

Oh, by the way. The X server supports RENDER (or is trying
to, I suspect that may be where the problem is).
I've got the version of konqueror and kdelibs which shipped with
RedHat 7.3. We're downloading RedHat 8.0 and will try that
too.
