I don't see how. An FTP URL can have no path (ftp://user@host), but then
it points to the initial directory ... which you can't rename.

An empty CWD will go to the initial directory, too, right?
(initial == the one you end up in after logging in, e.g. often $HOME for
non-anonymous-FTP)
