Hello,
in our university network we have an ftp server to which I have a
switched 100MBit Ethernet connection. Downloading large files with e.g.
ncftp, a console ftp client, works with about 8-9 MB/s which afaik is
about the maximum you can get with 100MBit Ethernet.
Doing the exact same download with kde is much slower, around 2.5 MB/s. I
tried it several times and I ensured that nobody else was downloading from
the same server during the time of my download. How can this be?
My PC is a PentiumII-400 with 256 megs of RAM running Linux 2.4.18 (Debian),
the server is also a Debian machine running pure-ftpd. The kde version
I am using is the 3.0.3 from the Debian directory of ftp.kde.org
If you need more information or additional test results to debug this
problem please tell me.
Greetings
Bastian Voigt
