Problem with initial directory when opening Conqueror

Whenever I click the Home directory button in the Panel, Konqueror opens 
to a subdirectory (which doesn't even exist any more, which it 
complains about) instead of to my actual home directory. 

Where is this information (about the desired initial directory) stored? 
How do I change it?
And what did I do that got it stuck this way in the first place?

I am currently using Konqueror 3.0.3-14 RedHat with KDE 3.0.3-8.3 
RedHat, but the behavior started before I upgraded from KRUD/RedHat 7.3 
to 8.0.
