  Ah ok I see.  I think I have been confused here.  In Doug's email he said to 
make sure that the view was linked but I thought "tab" in my mind.  You see, 
in my case, if I create a second tab, and then try to use the sidebar, it 
makes changes to the active view in the previous tab still.  This is very 
confusing.   (and why I don't like having split views inside tabs as much as 
tabs inside views)  I think this is still a bug that can be fixed though.  
The sidebar should not affect tabs that are not currently visible.  New tabs 
should automatically link to the sidebar too I guess.   This gets more and 
more messy...
