Hi
I've been working on a project in Kexi v 1.1.1 and have run into a
few minor issues. I hopped onto #kexi to see if I could get some
help and I was delighted to discover that the people on the channel
are friendly and very helpful. I am posting the transcripts of our
discussion of both problems here, in the hope that they will be
useful to anybody else who runs into similar:

Mysql Table creation problem:
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:23:46] <robo_ro> hi jstaniek...
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:24:45] <robo_ro> just a quick question, I
tried to create a table in a new project and when I save it it
fails as follows:
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:25:11] <robo_ro> Saving object's definition
failed.
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:25:11] <robo_ro> Creating table failed. Error
while executing SQL statement.
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:25:29] <robo_ro> You have an error in your SQL
syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server
version for the right syntax to use near ' sellerid INT,
purchasenumber INT, cost INT)' at line 1
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:25:41] <robo_ro> CREATE TABLE purchases (id
BIGINT UNSIGNED AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY DEFAULT , sellerid INT,
purchasenumber INT, cost INT)
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:25:52] <robo_ro> any recommendations?
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:27:55] <jstaniek> hmm
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:29:10] <jstaniek> minute
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:31:13] <jstaniek> robo_ro: have you entered
the ID field by hand or Kexi has generated it for you?
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:33:00] <jstaniek> robo_ro: in the table
design, please click on the ID row and check what's entered in
"Default value" property on the right hand
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:33:48] <jstaniek> if there is nothing entered,
try to click "revert changes" button near the property, if then
saving still fails,
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:34:12] <jstaniek> robo_ro: then try to remove
the ID field - kexi will recreate it for you
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:35:00] <robo_ro> entered ID field by hand and
marked it as Primary key... ID row = 0, revert still fails
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:35:04] <jstaniek> the newest Kexi version
deals with default values a bit better (i.e. ignores empty values)
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:35:13] <robo_ro> will try remove the ID field
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:35:20] <jstaniek> ok
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:35:46] <robo_ro> ah that worked... magic
[Tue Feb 6 2007] [17:35:51] <robo_ro> thank you...

Form Designer Layout issue:
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [11:56:32] <robo_ro> quick question, in kexi's
form builder, how do you get groups of fields to stick to the
different tabs in a tab widget? I'm a bit confused, they either
disappear behind the tab widget, or if I move my grids inside of
the Basic Containers, they disappear altogether
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [11:56:44] <jstaniek> hello robo_ro
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [11:56:54] <robo_ro> hi jstaniek
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [11:59:23] Join jstaniek_ has joined this channel
(n=Jaroslaw at cph66.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl).
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [11:59:43] <jstaniek_> robo_ro: minute...
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:00:06] <robo_ro> jstaniek_:cool thanks
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:01:10] <jstaniek_> robo_ro: there's a problem
if you use drag & drop for inserting the data fields
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:01:35] <jstaniek_> robo_ro: the current
workaroung is to use the toolbar (e.g. the "autofield" button) -
then you can set the datab source
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:01:50] <jstaniek_> and the effect will be the
same
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:02:10] <jstaniek_> I am using this method in
my database now
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:02:26] <robo_ro> okay let me experiment
again... I'll come back to you
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:02:28] <jstaniek_> the drag&drop problem will
be addressed, I hope for 1.1.2
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:04:15] <robo_ro> that works a treat... a few
more steps setting stuff up, but not unworkable
[Wed Feb 7 2007] [12:04:51] <robo_ro> i hope when 1.1.2 come out,
it gets packaged for debian in a hurry :-)

Thanks
Rowan

<@Ustas> Sigh. Got to go buy some food. A mouse hung itself in my fridge and left a note "can't live like this"
