I can only comment on 3 items.

The data loss on schema modification is a major issue I am told, and I don't
think it is as easy as your suggested fix implies as surely this would have
been fixed if it were as simple as that. However that is a question for the
developers who have in the past indicated that this is a major issue. So
perhaps they will put their point of view forward here.

Maybe I am dreaming, but I really thought that Kexi had an export facility
along with the import facility showing. The menu clearly indicates this. Is
this a regression? Or am I really dreaming. Probably, but I just have to get
that out of my head.

I just added a .bmp logo to a report. I didn't do this with my current
up-to-date running version, rather I used a version on another machine from
about 2 years back. I created an image block using the tool provided in the
Design mode and used the 'Value' in the Properties tool thereof where by
clicking on the [..] options button I could navigate to a location and choose
an image. It survived saving and was there after a restart of kexi.
