different indentation per file type

Yes, this is possible. Go to Settings -> Configure KDevelop -> Editor ->
Open/Save -> Modes & Filetypes tab.

There, select the file type and then under "Variables", click the Wizard 
icon and set "replace-tabs" in the way you want.
