if you prefer kde3 over kde4, there is still http://www.trinitydesktop.org/ -
kde3 revamped, still under active development, albeit somewhat slow, due to 
limited manpower.
nevertheless, it works quite well, especially on older hardware, where kde4 is 
just a PITA.
