kdevelop 4.4.1 install/update problem(s)

Hi,

My web work computer OS is Unbuntu 11.10. The kdevelop version installed 
as 4.2. I have attempted to install the upload plug-in and found that it 
will only work for kdevelop 4.4.

I've spent hours trying to install/update kdevelop 4.4.1 to no avail. I 
can't find a 'how to' for dummies like me. Is there a good reference 
available?

Why is there not a simple way to upgrade?
