LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Hi, all.  I'm a newbie to IDE's and KDevelop particularly.  I'm having a
problem with 3.5.3 on Ubuntu.  I have this libtool error:

../libtool: line 2411:
X/usr/local/lib/vmtk:/usr/local/lib/InsightToolkit:/usr/local/lib/vtk-5.5:
No such file or directory

when in fact those libraries exist.  On top of that, I don't need these
libraries for the project I'm building!  How do I fix this?
