Kdevelop 3.1.0 lost red error highlighting in compilation output!?

Yes, but the output was very inefficient. We switched to "log mode" (which 
doesn't allow for colorization or linebreak) for memory concerns.

(The outputview is still in dire need of an interested maintainer. Anyone 
wanting to help is more than welcome.)
