Automake Manager Subproject Philosophy?

I'm trying to understand the motivation and expectations for the use of
subprojects in KDevelop. I am inclined to group related classes in
namespaces, and to put the sources for all members of the namespace in a
subdirectory with the same name as the namespace. Is the "Add subproject"
selection in the "Automake Manager" the way to accomplish this?

I didn't see any documentation on how to use this feature. I understand WTFM
is an option, but only after I know what I'm doing.
