Project storage on removable devices?

 How can I store projects on a USB flash HD? It won't do it normally because 
of the Symbolic Links - but without being able to take my work with me - 
KDevelop loses it's value, as i work on many different computers and 
frequently use Knoppix. 

Any ideas?
