I have a crash problem too. I've compiled last tarball under Suse 8.2. 
When importing an exisitng proyect on python (PythonCAD) I had no 
problems. But with GeoTools library (Java) it crashes every time I try 
to import the proyect.
Has anyone a clue about this ? thanks
