Cheers... it appears that the kde 3.0 plugins didn't work with Qt 3.2.3.
So I built kde 3.1.4, and those plugins are ok :)

Now it complains about:
checking for Berkeley DB >= 3... configure: error: no - please install 
Berkeley DB >= 3
Life is never easy...
