Cross compile

Newbie, trying to learn. with cvs 3.0b2

1. How do I use custom project?
This is from the excellent handbook ch5, "if you prefer to maintain your own 
make files use custom project". But I do not see this option in the "new 
project menu".

2. Cross compile.
I have set Project->project options->config Options->Configure arguments to 
"host=i386-uclibc" and run re-config which runs though about 23 tests all of 
which look OK until "invalid configuration "i386-uclibc": system 'uclibc' not 
recognized.
How should I do this?
