Newbie question

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the correct place
to ask this question but I hope someone
can help me.

I'm writing a programm using OpenGL and SDL
and it always crashes with a segmentation fault.
Now I want to use a debugger( DDD ) to find out
where it crashes. My problem is that the debugger
doesn't recognize the binary file as an executable
format. I have enabled kdevelop to create debugging
information but this doesn't help. do I have to 
enable any other compiler or linker options??
