dot an arrow

In Gideon the side panels have a dot and an arrow on it. And I've found that
pressing the dot makes the panels non-overlaping (I don't know how you call
it) and I've found it very usefull, but what I don't like is that the arrow
to close the panel, is disabled when the dot is pressed ? why is that ? I
don't see there's a functionality conflict, is there any ?
