Kdevelop CVS

I was wondering if there was a way to tell configure (1.3 cvs) to install all 
the files in the normal kde app dirs (/usr/bin /usr/share , etc) instead of 
putting them in your kde libs dir (/opt/kde-1.1.2) .  I tried './configure 
--prefix=/usr'  but that just makes it where it can't find the kde1 libs.  
Any insight on how to get this to install where i want it?
