Strange configure error with kdevelop project

I just installed KDevelop (1.x) from the apt-archive at kde.tdyc.com.  I'm 
currently running the latest KDE 2 CVS.

When I create a new KDE project, it fails when trying to build a simple KDE 
application (in configure).  I don't know why this wouldn't work, because 
there is exactly the same test in the kdenetwork CVS, and it builds just fine 
(I'm using the CVS version of KMail right now :).

Is there any reason for this?  I have KDEDIR and QTDIR set, so that can't be 
the problem.
