I'm still trying to get started programming in Linux. I'm currently using
RedHat 5.2, KDE 1.1.1, and Kdevelop 0.3, which I downloaded the RPM for.
After installing the Kdevelop RPM, I tried to compile a simple program which
I wrote and compiled in DJGPP on DOS, and wanted to use to test the
functionality of Kdevelop.
With the opening screen that checked to make sure everything was installed
(like make, autoconf, etc.), if I recall correctly, I was only missing the
Qt documentation, and the translator, neither of which seem to be causing
the problems I'm experiencing.
I created a new C++ project (evidently Kdevelop cannot handle compiling
files outside of projects). I then tried to add my program to the project.
It added the program, but was unsuccessful in the compile. Here are the
various messages I received for different commands:
When I "Autoconf" (same message as when I added the program to the project)
GMAKE: Makefile.dist: No such file or directory
GMAKE: *** No rule to make target 'Makefile.dist'. Stop.
When I "Clean/Rebuild all"
GMAKE: ***No rule to make target 'dist clean'. Stop.
When I "Rebuild all"
GMAKE: ***No rule to make target 'clean'. Stop.
GMAKE: *** No targets. Stop.
When I "Make"
GMAKE: *** No targets. Stop.
When I "Compile File"
GMAKE: ***No rule to make target 'prob3n1.o'. Stop.
(Note: the name of the program was prob3n1.cpp)
Any help anyone can give in solving these various problems would be greatly
appreciated. I have a feeling that once we find the source of the problem,
all of these problems will be fixed.

P.S. I prefer to utilize RPM's as much as possible. Would consider
downloading gzip's if necessary to fix the problem.
