BUG in syntax highligthing

Since the insertion of the patch for highlighting of C/C++ Symbols not only
the highlighting of characters doesn't work, but also the hightlighting of
'X' doesn't work.
So please remove this patch or rework it, as it is anoying, to loose
functionality that worked before.
