spell checking in git commitmsg editor despite auto-spellcheck off?

Hi,

I just noticed that I'm getting spell checking feedback in the git commitmsg editor even when the "auto spellcheck" context menu action is not ticked. I'm also seeing close to 100% CPU load for both the KDevelop and the AppleSpell processes (on Mac), even after I close the commit toolview (and this is noticeable through choppy editing feedback in the editor).

The performance bit is new for me, is the always-on spellchecking new too?

KDevelop built from the 5.3 branch head, KF5 5.52.0 .
